The police officers of the city are authorized to enforce this chapter and to aid and assist the animal control officer in the enforcement of this chapter.

(a)   There is hereby created an office to be known as animal control officer for the enforcement of ordinances relating to animals.

(b)   All animal control officers shall be subject to the supervision and direction of the chief of police of the city.
